JUVÉDERM® & RESTYLANE® LIP FILLER

LIP FILLERS

Lip fillers are one of the most requested treatments at our medical spas, and when they are done with restraint they are also one of the most rewarding. A small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel, placed with care, can restore lips that have thinned over the years or gently enhance lips that have always been a little understated. The aim is never a dramatic, obvious result. It is balance: lips that suit your face and still look like yours.

At Esthetica Medspa, every lip filler treatment is performed by a licensed medical provider after a real consultation. We study the proportions of your lips and your face, listen to what you actually want, and build a plan around it.

What to Expect With Lip Fillers

Immediate, Natural Volume

You will see added volume right away. A skilled provider builds it gradually so your lips look balanced and natural, never overfilled.

Quick, Comfortable Treatment

Treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes. We use a topical numbing cream and the filler contains a local anesthetic, so most patients are comfortable throughout.

Results Last 6 to 12 Months

Lip filler fades gradually as your body breaks down the hyaluronic acid. Most patients return once or twice a year for a top up.

Safe and Reversible

We use only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers, which can be dissolved if ever needed. Mild swelling or bruising is temporary.

Balance, Not Just Volume

What Lip Fillers Are

Lip fillers are injectable gels, almost always made of hyaluronic acid, that add volume, shape, and definition to the lips. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin and holds onto water, so it plumps softly and integrates well. A treatment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes and the results are visible right away.

Because the filler is hyaluronic acid rather than a permanent substance, the result is adjustable and, if ever needed, reversible. That safety margin is a big part of why these fillers became the standard for lips.

They let an experienced provider add volume gradually, review the shape, and refine, rather than committing you to something that cannot be undone.

During treatment, your provider injects small amounts of hyaluronic acid gel into specific points in the lips and, sometimes, along the border. The gel adds volume where it is placed and draws in a little water over the following days, which is part of how the lips settle into their final shape. By choosing where and how much to inject, a skilled provider can do far more than simply make lips bigger.

Filler can rebuild volume that has been lost with age, define a border that has become blurred, lift downturned corners, smooth fine vertical lip lines, and improve the balance between a thin upper lip and a fuller lower one. The artistry is in reading your individual anatomy and respecting it. The same syringe in two different hands can produce a beautifully natural result or an overfilled one, which is why technique and an honest eye matter more than the brand on the box.

Most lip fillers belong to the same family of hyaluronic acid gels, with brands such as Juvederm and Restylane offering several formulations designed for the lips. They differ in how soft or structured they are, how much they lift, and how they feel, which lets a provider match the product to your goal. We will recommend the one that fits your lips, not a one-size-fits-all default.

A softer, more flexible gel suits someone who wants subtle hydration and a natural pout, while a slightly firmer gel gives more definition and structure for a sculpted border. Some patients do best with a blend across more than one visit. If you have had filler you liked or disliked before, tell us the name, because that history genuinely helps us choose well for you. What stays constant is that we use FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers and explain why we are reaching for a particular one.

Lip filler adds real volume with hyaluronic acid gel and lasts around 6 to 12 months, while a lip flip uses a few units of Botox to roll the upper lip outward for a subtler, shorter effect. Filler changes size and shape; a flip only changes how the lip sits. Many patients weigh the two, so here is the short version.

Choose filler when you genuinely want more fullness, a defined border, or to balance uneven lips. Choose a lip flip when your lips are a fine size but your top lip tucks under or disappears when you smile. They also work together: a small amount of filler for volume plus a flip to keep the upper lip visible is a combination some patients love. At your consultation we will tell you which one actually matches the result you are describing, even if it is the less expensive option.

Lip fillers typically last 6 to 12 months. The lips are constantly in motion from talking, eating, and drinking, so filler there breaks down a little faster than in some other areas. How long your result lasts depends on the product used, your metabolism, and how much was placed.

You will not lose the result suddenly. The hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by your body, so the lips slowly and evenly return toward their starting point, and most patients book a top up once or twice a year to maintain the look they like. There is no wrong rhythm, and we will help you find one that fits your life and budget.

Lip filler is usually priced per syringe, and many lip treatments use a single syringe, though some patients need only half a syringe and others prefer to build volume across more than one visit. Because the right amount depends on your lips and your goal, we give you a clear, itemized quote at your consultation before any treatment begins. For typical per-syringe numbers, see our guide to Juvéderm lip filler pricing.

It is worth being cautious about prices that look unusually low. With lips, the skill and judgment of your provider matter enormously, and a result that has to be dissolved and redone is the most expensive option of all. We would rather give you an honest price for careful, conservative work than win you on a number and compromise the outcome. If you are weighing filler against a lip flip on cost, remember they are different purchases: filler costs more per session but lasts far longer.

Lip fillers suit people who want more fullness, better definition, more symmetry, or to restore volume that has thinned with age. They are a good option whether you want a barely-there enhancement or a fuller look, because the amount is entirely in your control and built up gradually.

Filler is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for people with certain autoimmune or bleeding conditions, or where there is an active cold sore or infection in the area, which is part of why we review your health history before treating. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know, because we can take steps to reduce the chance of a flare. The surest way to find out whether filler is right for you, and how much you truly need, is a short consultation where we assess your lips in person.

Your visit starts with a consultation. We talk through what you want, study the proportions of your lips and face, review your medical history, and agree on a plan and an amount together. Before treatment we apply a topical numbing cream, and the fillers we use also contain a local anesthetic, so most patients are comfortable throughout. The injections themselves usually take 15 to 30 minutes.

You will see added volume immediately, though some initial swelling is normal and means the very first look is a little fuller than your final result. Most swelling settles within two to three days, and the lips reach their true shape at about two weeks. Mild tenderness, small bumps, or some bruising can happen and are temporary. If a refinement is needed, we plan it once the lips have fully settled rather than rushing to add more on the same day.

Lip filler aftercare is straightforward. For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat such as saunas and hot yoga, and pressing or massaging the lips unless we tell you otherwise. A little gentle ice can ease swelling, and staying hydrated helps. Expect the lips to look their puffiest in the first couple of days, then soften steadily. The shape you will keep is the one you see at about two weeks, which is when we like first-time patients to come back for a quick review.

One of the advantages of hyaluronic acid filler is that it can be dissolved. An enzyme called hyaluronidase breaks down the gel, which means an unwanted result, a lump, or filler from a previous provider can usually be reversed. This safety net is a real reason hyaluronic acid became the standard for lips.

If you come to us unhappy with filler done elsewhere, we can talk through whether dissolving, refining, or simply waiting is the right path, without judgment. Dissolving is a treatment in its own right and is planned carefully, since timing and technique matter. Knowing that the option exists is part of what makes hyaluronic acid lip filler a measured, low-risk choice in experienced hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do lip fillers hurt?
Most patients are comfortable. We use a topical numbing cream, and the filler itself contains a local anesthetic, so the injections usually feel like small pinches or pressure rather than sharp pain.
How much do lip fillers cost?
Lip filler is priced per syringe, and many treatments use a single syringe, though some need less and some build up over more than one visit. We give you a clear, itemized quote at your consultation before any treatment begins.
How long do lip fillers last?
Most lip fillers last 6 to 12 months. The result fades gradually as your body breaks down the hyaluronic acid, and most patients return once or twice a year for a top up to maintain the look.
Will my lips look natural?
That is the goal. We dose conservatively and build volume gradually, so the result fits your face. If you want something very subtle, we plan for that, and we would rather you return for a little more than overfill in one visit.
Can lip fillers be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, so an unwanted result or filler from another provider can usually be reversed. We assess and plan dissolving carefully when it is the right step.
